Matichya Chuli - Marathi movie review

Rating: ****
Cast: Sudhir Joshi, Vandana Gupte, Ankush Choudhari, Madhura Velankar, Sanjay Mone, Anand Abhyankar
Directed by: Sudesh Manjrekar, Atul Kale
Produced by: Ashwami Manjrekar
Story: Mahesh Manjrekar
Dialogues: Sanjay Pawar
Genre: Family drama

Matichya Chuli is a family drama which beautifully depicts relationships between parents, their son and daughter-in-law in a typical middle class family. The main plot of the movie is the souring of relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and the rope walk done by the father-in-law and his son.

Shripad Dandekar (Late Mr.Sudhir Joshi, later replaced by Mr. Anand Abhyankar) and Sunanda Dandekar (Vandana Gupte) are middle aged couples from a Brahmin family with a son Vishal Dandekar (Ankush Choudhari) who gets married to Pooja Bhosale (madhura Velankar) from a Maratha family. Due to their difference in ways of handling house-hold things, Sunanda and Pooja slowly start disliking each other. Vishal gets stuck between his emotional mother and disciplined wife. Shripad tries to maintain the decorum of the house but to no success.

Story unfolds as some realistic incidents take place. Ups and downs of their relationships are very nicely handled. The title of the movie comes from a Marathi adage "Gharoghari Matichya Chuli" which lets us know that this is the story of each and every house.

Apart from the realistic story, I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogues of the movie. At many places in the movie, you will have a smile on your face but with eyes getting little mosit. Heart touching dialogues and helplessness of each character has been showcased miraculously.

I would strongly recommend to watch this movie so that you will be in a better position to handle relationships in your life. And if its too late, you can atleast sit back and identify yourself as one of the characters in the movie.

Google Chrome OS

Google has been world leaders in Web technologies and mainly Web Search. I use google day in and day out to find information or even find websites whose URL are familiar to me. But I would prefer typing as little as possible and then clicking links to my destination webpage. Slowly it advanced into Social Networking sites and now it is making its way into Operating Systems.

I came across this news on the official Google blog today. I was surprised to learn this. Blog says that Google Chrome was success but some other online material say that it did not succeed as expected. Now who would keep low expectations when Google launches anything.

Similarly, my expectations from Google Chrome OS are high. It will be an open source OS and I am looking forward to it.

But what amazes me is Google's offensive strategy. It might not be the case but it seems that this OS is an answer to Microsoft's Bing. If Microsoft can try and compete with Google in what Google is supposedly at their best, even Google can compete with Microsoft in their core areas i.e. OS. With more competition, I think users are going to profit because now neither Microdoft nor Google can relax with the services that they are offering and have to be on the tip of their toe in bringing up new technologies. Eventually, I see users getting benefited from this healthy rivalry.

I hope we have more strong contenders in coming years.

My trip to Belfast, UK

I could locate few cities below me. It was dark everywhere and the density of street lights were the indicators of how big a city is. Guessing the cities was fun but there was a little anxiety. I don't know if it was of leaving my homeland, my family or travelling to an unknown territory or accepting a new work responsibility. This was my first trip out of my country, India.

I was an Infosys employee and was working on a project with British Telecom. Our project team was located in Belfast, UK and Pune, India. I was working from Pune for 7-8 months now. I missed a prior chance to fly to UK as my visa was delayed. Even this time, the story was exciting. I was expected to fly on Jan 5, 2008. My manager had committed to the client about my arrival at onsite. However, I didn't receive my passport with stamped visa. As a result, I was supposed to travel the same day the visa arrives. Unfortunately, visas arrive to office only after 4pm. So it was routine to book a flight everyday in the morning and cancel in after 4 pm. Finally, my visa arrived on 10th of Jan and I left for Mumbai at 5pm after collecting my visa. I had also booked a cab beforehand. Sneha accompanied me with her dampened eyes. After crossing the Mumbai traffic, I reached my home late and was required to leave my house in half an hour or so. A weekend prior to that, I had packed my bags and been giving instructions to my parents for the whole week about the additions to be made. In a hurry, we all left for the airport and reached their in time. But the whole evening was so chaotic. The grief of leaving behind the loved ones and the anxiety to make it to the airport clashed time and again over that evening. With some uneasy feeling, I entered airport and boarded the British Airways(BA) flight. Now, you know the reason for that anxiety while guessing the cities.

I was enjoying the BA service. My flight was destined to Heathrow airport, London. From there, I had a connecting flight to Belfast. I could feel a different earth when I first peeped out of my window in Belfast. Not so tall building, beautiful landscapes and straight roads were catching my attention. My flight landed and I was eager to breathe that air. It was 9:30 in the morning. As soon as I stepped out of the flight, I realized for the first time that ACs can be used to warm your body. There was a nice cold breeze. It felt like I was in some hill station in India. I saw some accumulated snow on the airport and then my hands started freezing, not to mention the frozen state of my mind. After clearing all the security and claiming my luggage, I headed towards office. After a brief chat with my onsite project members, I came to my new house.

My new house was a 2 BHK well furnished apt in heart of the city. My new roommates were Jeemish and Sumeet. I was sharing room with Jeemish. Both of them were very friendly to me as I was new to the place. This was not the first time I was staying with friends. I had been sharing room with friends back in Pune. But we did not use to cook at home. So some things like buying shared groceries, cooking everyday at home were new for me. I gelled well with my new roommates and made good friends with them. I started enjoying bachelor's life.

Meanwhile, I started work from the next day. I was given a desk with phone and a laptop for work. I started understanding the new procedures to be followed at new office. Met new project members from other modules which I had only heard of before this. It was not a major shift of responsibilities taking into consideration the work. I was mostly performing the same activities that I was performing from offshore. Only difference this time was that I was not supposed to work out of office schedules :). So life was lot easy.

Only added responsibility was that we were supposed to provide a 24x7 support. Our team had to carry a cell phone all the time. I had to keep it with me alternate weeks. But it rang once in a blue moon. My office timing was 9 to 5. I came in at 9:30 and sometimes 10. I dont remember a day where I was forced to stay back after 5pm barring a few exceptions. My only motivation to stop back in office after 5 pm was to call my loved one or loved one. I could directly call Infy office in Pune from my extension. This was the service I used the most while my stay in British Telecom(BT). I had many friends who were in Infy, Pune but I missed Sneha the most. We used to talk for long hours because I knew even she was feeling the pinch. The long distance separating us at that time only helped in making us realize that nothing can part us apart.

I spent rest of my day in my apt. I used to get up in the morning to chat with my mom. The ease with which she used to operate home PC was truly amazing. Few months back, I had to explain her everytime I said click that it always meant left click unless specified otherwise. But her will to be in touch with me plateaued all the huge mountains between us. She would come online and wait eagerly to chat with me. I also could not feel fine unless I saw her online.

Other thing that I did religiously these 3 months was watching movies. Jeemish was my partner in this, and we both used to download 5-6 movies each at a time. We could not get sleep if we had not consumed enough media, be it sitcoms, movies or any other damn videos. As the days of my return were nearing, we were pressurized more and more to watch all the movies that we had downloaded.

Weekends were a bit boring if there was no outing planned. Planning an outing was not a piece of cake. I thought the main reason was the climatic conditions. It used to be freezing cold outside. Sunshine was just to make mockery of your senses. You won't dare to get out in the afternoon without your jacket or a sweater. Nights were chilly and meant to be at home. It also snowed couple of times during my stay at Belfast. Moreover most of my project members had been to nearby places and showed no enthusiasm to go again in this weather.

Sheetal was entusiastic to go out as she had also not seen most of those places. She was supposed to return to India and thus wanted to visit some of the places around. So we both planned trips and asked others. We always found a group of 4-5. Our trip to Castlerock was very eventful. Apart from that we went to Stormont Parliament and Exploris Aquarium which were simply superb. If we could not go far, we would atleast go around the small town, she knew few places and few places were still to be discovered.

There was also a long weekend during my stay in UK and people generally used to plan something good for long weekends. This time they had planned for a trip to Paris. But, we had to apply for schengen visa to go to Paris. For that I had to wait atleast a month after coming to UK to get my first salary slip. My friends helped me in getting my document work done and as soon as I was ready, we sent my application which was accepted in the first attempt. And so we were ready. Some of the guys had to cancel their plans mid-way. Finally we were 6 of us who went to Paris. It was one of the great experiences I had in my life, not to mention The Wonder - Eiffel Tower. All other places that we visited were simply amazing and this turned out to be my first pleasure trip out of India. This was also a special one because it was my first pleasure trip without my parents. I completely missed them but I could also sense a feeling of responsibility and independence.

Days passed and my stay at UK was coming to an end. It was only a week after I returned from Paris. I flew back to India on 28th of March. I was excited to meet my friends and family (Sneha included here, ;)). That is the reason why I was not missing my lovely trip at Belfast. But when I look back to those three months, I should affirm that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. This was my smallest stay at any place but it will always remain in my memories and thoughts. I would like to go back and stay their for some more time, but this time accompanied with my loved ones.

An year after Infy

Its been an year now after my last day in Infosys. 27 June 2008 was the day when I bid Infy bye and went on my path to higher studies. After an year and couple of sems behind me I wish to revisit my memories at Infy. I would also like to think on how my life changed after Infy.

Getting unemployed after earning salaries every month for two years is a little difficult task. It is indeed a tough decision. One gets used to continuous inflow of money. But this time it was not about money. I know I wanted to step out of my position to have a better future. Earning money will again be part of my life some day and I had accumulated enough to sustain till that time. This time it was about broadening horizons. I wanted to get a higher academic degree in a far more developed country. All these thoughts never made me uneasy to give up on what I had.

But I still remember the initial days at Infy. I was fresh out of college. I was a BE in Computers and eager to have a look at professional world. I never had any work experience. My first day in Infy was July 26, 2006. I was supposed to undergo a training in Pune. The training was a 9th sem and gave exposure to professional world only to an extent. I was hardly pressurized - strolling through my lessons, projects and many hours of Counter Strike. I was making new friends, exploring new city and having fun. I had made good friends with Sujeeth, Yazad, Revati, Paridhi and Radha. After a good span of 4 months, my training was over and I was alloted a project.

Meanwhile an entirely different chapter in my life was starting. I made friends with Sneha, a girl from my training batch. She was not in my project but we went to a trek together with other friends from Infy. I shared some of my best moments in Infy with her. I might make a big list of things that I owe to Infy and her name will be at the top of the list.

HP Openview - that was the tool I was supposed to learn in the project. Padmapriya, Sheetal, Amey and Rajinder from my training batch were also with me in this project. We were asked to report to Deepak Deshmukh. He is the coolest manager I have ever worked with. He made us feel extremely comfortable and never lost his cool. We met our other project members Smuki, Darshana, Kiran, Amber, etc. Slowly, we were bonding together. But there was no clarity on what stage the project was in. I only knew that their is a group of people who are onsite and will get back to us soon. Meanwhile, we kept ourselves busy with chats, coffee, games and walks. Days went by and we were getting into specialized groups that focus on one of the softwares from HP Openview Tool.

Service Desk - this is the HPOV s/w that I was asked to concentrate on. This was the tool I was playing with for the whole of next year. I was put on a live project which involved supporting Service Desk for National Health Scheme (NHS), UK. NHS was client to British Telecom (BT). And BT was client to Infosys. I wrote this together but it took me good amount of time to understand the whole structure. Anyways, finally I was seeing some light. I could feel that I get to do work which involves responsibility. Ever since I was billable for this project, I had to report to Balaji Ranganathan. He was in UK and I was in Pune. We talked on phone and exchanged mails. I was more than glad to take responsibilities as it was almost an year in Infy with almost negligible responsibility. My only responsibility prior to that was to swipe in and out my card daily and fill the time sheet. Now I got to access client systems, handle support cases, talk with customers and report to BT managers.

As I got more and more comfortable with my work, I started to handle most of the cases independently. I got a lot of help from Ajeet and Anupam who were gurus in this project. After a while, I used to train new members in the project. Then, in January 2008, I got a chance to goo onsite. I had to work from Belfast, UK. This was again a fresh experience and I thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment. That was the first time I got to see my manager, Balaji. It was a pleasure working with him. I had a short cameo to play in UK and was sent back to India just before 3 months. I spent my last 3 months again in Pune. Though I was working on the same project, it was more of transfer of responsibilities. I was getting ready to fly far from my first workplace. Finally the day of flight arrived and I made my way back to Mumbai with lots of fun-filled memories to cherish in my heart.

After an year in Infosys, I realize how important it was to get a work experience for two years before studying again. Apart from expertise in Excel and writing official mails, you are able to handle most of the situations in life with a better understanding and organization. Infy Rocks.

Return to BlogWorld!

Hello,

I had started this blog sometime in September last year. I had a couple of posts at that time and then was alluding for all this time. There are quite a few reasons for this.
First and the foremost is the time factor. I am a graduate student doing my MS. This doesn't imply that I am into studies. It just goes to say that I don't manage my time well. I watch all sorts of videos, movies, play trivial games, hang around with friends, go out for eating and sleep(more than enough). And now I complain of time crunch. Please forgive me God! :P
One other good reasons is the lack of popularity of my blogs. Why should I write if no one is going to read them. Did I ask myself at any point of time, what will the people read if I don't post anything? This is the same old chicken and egg problem. Anyways, I like to eat both and how does it matter what came first. Let me do whatever I can do and the good things will follow. It is always the one who has an idea who has to stand up and speak. Life doesn't point to you and ask if you have any idea.

Actually, I have been motivated by my friend Smuki to start writing again. He argued that it will help him to know how my life is cruising out here (out of his sight). And that is a valid point. Moreover, it will help me to someday introspect my ideas and my way of living. Whatever may be the reason, they can always evolve in the future. But, very much thanks to my loving and caring friend Smuki to always motivate me to do things.
One more thing I badly need to adopt from him is to care about your loved ones. He thinks a lot about his loved ones and always sees to it that they are taken care of. Having this is mind and practising it are two different things. Most of us fall in one category and he falls in other. I would rather like to switch my category. And it is not a single day process but is an ongoing process. Let me make a start today.

Returning back to my return to blogs, I hope to see you more often on this site now. I will surely be writing stuff here as I have a strong motivation now. I would also like to hear comments from you, so that it will help me to write my futute blogposts. Any other comments are also welcome. So, lets get started.

If at any point of time, you are wondering why am I here today, it is because today was my last class as well as the last submission of this semester. I still have couple of exams though. This reminds me I have to get back to my academics for some time now. See you soon.

Thanks.
